What is Arthrodesis?

In cases of severe comminuted fractures, dislocation, or arthritis that require amputation of the leg, arthrodesis can be performed as an alternative procedure to preserve the limb. Arthrodesis involves cutting the bones corresponding to the upper and lower parts of the joint, aligning the cut surfaces, and then fixing them in place at a specific angle using implants.

For a good prognosis,it is crucial to accurately calculate the length and angle of the leg to ensure that the patient can walk comfortably following the surgery. However, several challenges arise due to factors such as limited surgical approach and the complex shape of the bones

An arthrodesis guide is a surgical instrument custom-made for each patient through a 3D simulation process using the patient's CT scans. It aids in precisely cutting and repositioning the cut surfaces.

The guide set consists of an osteotomy guide, which helps bone-cutting procedure, and reduction and compression guides used to realign and compress the bones
